What we do
- The Kiwanis Club of Lady Lake (K10298) was chartered on April 11, 1981 by the Leesburg Noon Club. Our motto is "Serving the Children of the World". Since then our club has proven itself to be a dynamic, and integral part of our community. The Lady Lake Club has been working to make our community a better place to live and work by providing services which are beyond the scope of government. The Kiwanis Motto, "We Build," is best exemplified by a look at some of the many club projects throughout the club's existence. For 65 years, a major emphasis of Kiwanis International has been the support of youth. The Lady Lake Club firmly believes this goal is one way to nurture better leaders for tomorrow. Over the years, the club has sponsored a high school Key Club, Builders Clubs (middle schools), K-Kids Clubs (elementary schools), and soccer teams. Reading Is Fundamental programs at four schools, and Bringing Up Grades at various schools. We also serve the community through various projects including cooking food for The Villages Elementary School Festival and for Teachers appreciation Week, hold food drives and distribute food to the needy, as well as collecting used cell phones, eye glasses, bicycles, stuffed animals and whatever else is needed to improve the quality of life for our community.
Committees That Serve Our Community
YOUTH SERVICES: Reading is Fundamental (RIF) programs at our local schools, providing scholarships for H.S. seniors moving on to college, selling food at the Villages Elementary School Spring Festival and donating all the profits back to the school for their programs, and Bringing Up Grades (BUG) to encourage children to improve their grades throughout the school year.
YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE (YCPO): Providing needed items such as diapers for children from birth to 5 years of age.
SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS (SLP): Kiwanis advisors acting as liaisons to club-sponsored programs including the Aktion Club of Lady Lake (for special needs adults), K-Kids in the elementary schools, Builders Clubs in the middle schools, Key Clubs in the High Schools and Circle K for college students.
COMMUNITY SERVICE: Providing funding for events sucn as the annual Lady Lake Easter Egg Hunt, Not so Scary Halloween, Shop With A Cop, Spring Break Food Packing for children on the free or reduced lunch program, Apples for Teachers during Teacher appreciation week, and much more.
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL (RIF)
The Kiwanis Club of Lady Lake likes to spark a passion for reading among children and young adults. We've lined up a series of engaging activities, including interactive story sessions, captivating book readings by local authors, and lively book club discussions for various age groups.
Younger kids will love the picture books and fairy tales, where they can enjoy storytelling and fun reading games. Clowns join us to help make the session more fun and exciting.
Join us for a day of imagination and discovery, where every book opens up a new world for the children.
RAISING MONEY TO FUND OUR PROGRAMS
Fundraising activities are essential for supporting the work of non-profits and community groups. They not only raise vital funds but also enhance community engagement and awareness. Our premier fundraising event is Sunday Bingo. Every Sunday from September thru June, we host Bingo at the Paradise Recreation Center in the Villages. Bingo not only generates funds for our programs but also provides a platform for enjoyable community participation.
Throughout the year, we look for other ways to raise money and we appreciate the donations we receive.
Programs such as, Shop With A Cop, Reading is Fundamental, Teacher Appreciation, Scholarships, and much, much more are funded by donations and our fundraising efforts.
